Figure 11-10 shows a schematic of one of the major papermaking processes, called the Kraft process. This complex process can be divided into four stages, or steps: (1) preparation of wood chips in the woodyard, (2) conversion of the wood chips to pulp, (3) conversion of the pulp to paper, and(4) recycling of chemicals, energy, and water. Let's look at the different things that happen in each stage and the way ceramics are involved.
