As the author is a keen observer of human nature particularly the relationships between people, he is narrating the entire story of Louise in his own words. The story is framed in an ironic way, but at first it is a hidden irony. He says that Louise had a delicate and gentle nature and though she disliked the author, she never told him that directly but her delicate, ladylike gestures conveyed to him what she meant. They knew each other for twenty-five years and according to her, he was a course, brutal, cynical and vulgar fellow.
