Multimeters are available with either analog or digital displays. Analog meters (Figure 16-25) enjoyed wide popularity prior to electronic control systems. Today, the most commonly used multimeter is the digital volt/ohmmeter (DVOM), which is often referred to as a digital multimeter (DMM). These meters do not use a sweeping needle and scales to display the measurement. Rather, they display the measurement digitally on the meter (Figure 16-26).
