The present study involved primary analyses of parental childrearing
data collected adjunctively at one site during a large,
multisite investigation (Hoerger et al., 2011), which was approved
for ethical compliance by the university’s Institutional Review
Board. Participants were young adults recruited from a large Midwestern
university (N = 286; ages 18–35, M = 19.7, SD = 2.1; 65.1%
female; 90.1% white). They completed the vast majority of study
