The designed cell also allowed for the control of the rate
of deposition. The flow of the gases evolved from this reaction
was quantitatively measured by a soap-bubble flowmeter.
The main component of the gas product was nitrogen.
The majority of NH,, which was a product of the decomposition
of palladium tetrammine dichloride, was dissolved in the
plating solution. The rest of the ammonia was removed by
bubbling the gas through the 1-M HC1 solution. Figure 4
shows the nitrogen flow rates for two successive platings
