The urban prevalence of hypertension in our finding was similar with earlier reports from
urban Gonder(28%) and Addis Ababa (31.5%) male and (28.9%) female [7,17,18]. This is
higher than the recent prevalence report for the employees of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia
in Addis Ababa, which could be due to the fact that the mean age of our study population was
higher than that the employees of CBE [8]. Although this silent epidemic constitutes a big burden
to the country, it is not getting enough, preventive and controlling intervention from the
health care system.
