Schools were offered several means to support education
for increasing awareness of the harmful effects of
smoking and these options were taken up in varying
degrees from school to school. Opportunities were given
by two of the schools for the project lead to deliver brief
intervention training sessions to inform all teaching staff
of the programme during their teacher training days.
Assemblies were prepared and presented in school E
(Table 1), and workshops were held at school F for nearly
100 pupils. The programme also provided financial
resource to offer a theatre in education programme
(TIE) to all year 10 and 11 pupils from the target schools.
This was taken up by schools D, E and F, where it was
delivered to all year 10 pupils in 2007 and repeated to
year 10 pupils in 2008.
