A published analysis of NHSLA data on
falls leading to litigation between 1998
and 2004, mainly from acute hospitals,
found 24 per cent occurred whilst the
patient was mobilising, 23 per cent
were falls from beds, 14 per cent were
falls from a toilet or commode, 11 per
cent from trolleys, five per cent from
chairs, and three per cent in bathrooms,
with 20 per cent in unclear or other
circumstances.27
