The bombings happened two days right after Yifan left.
Junmyeon wasn’t sure if he heard it right the first time.
Gunshot...?
But, a gunshot in the middle of the day...?
The loud sound was heard for the second time, continued by the sound of rifles being fired somewhere far away. Confused, Junmyeon hastily went to his window and saw smoke of fire in the general direction of Incheon Harbor.
The harbor had been attacked.
The building was shaking enormously when another bomb was dropped. It seemed near enough, judging from the great tremors. Junmyeon failed to reach for anything to hold onto when it happened and he fell onto the tiled floor. He moaned in pain as he forced himself to get up. Even in such condition, his mind flew to Yifan and recalled what his boyfriend had said few days before.
Somewhere north.
Junmyeon held his breath in horror.
It was wrong.
They were the ones being ambushed, not the other way around.
Junmyeon whimpered in fear when he heard a horrifying sound somewhere not too far and covered his ears with his hands. Something within him yelled, but he was too afraid to move.
Junmyeon! What are you doing? You are a doctor!
The sound of people crying and screaming from outside snapped him back to reality, and he forced himself to crawl out, to the direction of emergency room. By the time he arrived at the said place, there were already a lot of people gathering, most of them were covered in blood. Junmyeon could even tell some of them were already gone with a swift glance.
“Doctor! Doctor, please help my son first!”
“She stops breathing, Doctor!”
“Doctor, he needs your help! He comes in first!!”
Everyone was screaming at him for help. Junmyeon’s breath became ragged and his heartbeat accelerated. He was panicked. He wasn’t sure if he could handle the pressure and he almost dropped to his knees. Fortunately, Kyungsoo caught his arms right before he did, yelling something along the lines of ‘get a grip of yourself’ and it somehow gave him his strength back. Junmyeon took a deep breath to calm down.
He wasn’t alone. Kyungsoo was with him in this.
Unfortunately, the calmness only lasted for a moment. When a man with Navy uniform got into the emergency room with blood all over his face, Junmyeon’s heart almost stopped beating.
But no, it was not Yifan.
No, it can’t be, because Yifan’s up there, fighting...
The soldier was quickly taken to Junmyeon, but Junmyeon’s hands were shaking badly. He managed to snatch a bandage from a nurse nearby, but it was clear that he wasn’t in his best state.
“JUNMYEON!!” Kyungsoo screamed at the other side of the room. “YOU’RE A DOCTOR, RIGHT? THEY NEED YOUR HELP!!!”
Kyungsoo’s words came like a hard slap on his face, and Junmyeon slowly regained his consciousness back.
Yifan is all right. He is all right...
Junmyeon inhaled deeply before giving the soldier the first help he needed. The male quickly gained his self-confidence back before moving to another civilian.
“All the air-force units were called to the northern peninsula,” Junmyeon heard Kyungsoo stating calmly beside him. He glanced at the doe-eyed male, not really getting what he was saying. But when he saw Kyungsoo’s expression, he understood. Jongin must’ve told him the same thing that Yifan had said.
Something about opening their hearts if...
“What if—what if it’s us instead of them, Junmyeon...?”
There was nothing Junmyeon could do, but to squeeze Kyungsoo’s shoulder to calm him down.
“Not us,” he firmly said. “You’re going to live, Kyungsoo.”

Everyone in the room went panicked when another bomb was dropped near the hospital.
Junmyeon clutched onto his dragon necklace tightly.
Yifan.

Junmyeon opened one eye and he saw a combat tank was rolling toward the hospital when he gazed outside.
The people around him were crying and screaming, and Junmyeon shut his eyes close for seconds. His hope was starting to fade.
Kyungsoo was right.
Junmyeon had been so scared about losing Yifan in battle, but what if it was the other way around...?
His palm was beginning to hurt from clutching the dragon necklace so tightly. He was close to accepting his fate to die at the hospital without Yifan—
—when all of a sudden, something blasted the tank to pieces and the people inside it.
Junmyeon gaped in shock, but it soon morphed into a relief laugh when he saw the air-force units were filling the sky, firing mercilessly at their enemies.
His hope grew back.

“We’re gonna be saved,” Kyungsoo’s words jerked Junmyeon out of his daze. “We’re gonna be safe, because they’re protecting us, Junmyeon.”
Junmyeon gasped abruptly when the doe-eyed male pulled him into a standing position.
“Come on, Doctor Kim,” Kyungsoo smiled encouragingly. “Jongin and Yifan are fighting for us, and we have our own fight, too.”
***
Junmyeon gazed outside at least every ten seconds.
Babe, be safe.
More soldiers were brought to the hospital, and Junmyeon prayed hard that his boyfriend wasn’t one of them. Fortunately, Yifan was nowhere in his sight, and Junmyeon prayed harder.
Babe, go home and marry me...
