Mintec chief operating officer Susan Wick and chairman Fred Banfield receive the 2012 Excellence in Global Business Award from Arizona congressman Ron Barber and Carolita Oliveros, vice chair of the Arizona District Export Council.
Mintec staff took a collective bow when the Tucson company was presented with a global business award in August.
In presenting the award at Mintec’s Tucson headquarters, Aug. 15, Arizona congressman Ron Barber paid tribute to founder and chairman Fred Banfield.
“One of the great things about our country is that an idea and a person who really believes in an idea, can make things happen,” said Barber. “When you look at what Fred thought about 42 years ago and where Mintec is today – over 200 employees worldwide, doing incredible work – it’s really a great tribute to the people who have made this possible.”
Barber went on to pay tribute to long-time Mintec employees Abdullah Arik, Diane Hanna, Erik Johnson, Larry Berry, Matt Thorndal, Steve Swanson and Rudy Moctezuma. Earlier this year, Mintec recognized 46 long-serving employees for their combined 623 years of service.
Barber added: “Even in the depth of this economic downturn, Mintec is growing and adding staff, which is a tribute … to your position in the market in that you’re offering a product that’s obviously very important to mine operations worldwide.”
The 2012 Excellence in Global Business Award is presented by the U.S. Commercial Service - part of the Department of Commerce by the Arizona District Export Council. Barber toured Mintec’s headquarters, learning more about MineSight, the company’s comprehensive modeling and mine planning software platform.
“It’s an honor to be recognized in this way,” said Mintec chief operating officer, Susan Wick. “We’ve built our business on always recognizing the needs of our clients. Our continued growth and this award are a vindication of that approach.”
