Okay, The Simpson's first broadcast on Sky One in September of 1990, with Call of the Wild. The references to BBC2 are in fact bogus, BBC2 used to show The Tracy Ullman Show, american produced which had 2-5 minute Simpson sketches in them, however as far as I am aware the BBC never aired those clips as they felt they wouldn't translate to a UK audiences (DOH ! anyone). As The Simpons craze quite literately swept the globe BSkyB brought the rights to as quick as they could, where for many years it was a staple of Sunday night TV in the family TV time, as the seasons rolled on Sky started to repeat the series each night, and more recently has been premiering the new episodes on a Friday night as part of their comedy night, usually before The Middle. In 1996 Terrestrial TV got The Simpsons on Channel 4, where is it now shown often in the same family TV Slot, however the rights always means that Terrestrial is at least 5 seasons behind Sky. I can not quote for media share as I never really got into that on TV, however you would have to believe Sky would not be out bidding everyone if it wasn't making them TV Viewer figures. The success of the program spawned The Simpsons Movie, which although proved very profitable for Fox, was met with some less than favourable reviews. The film has never had a sequel and talk on that has always been muted. The promotional content from the film was greater in the US, where a number of 7-11 stores were re-banded for I think it was 12 weeks as Kwik E Marts from the show, stock Buzz Cola, Radioactive man comics and a number of other products often spoken of in the show. The success of the show has spawned numerous merchandise lines from clothing, to music and dolls as well as more novelty items, such as Fridge Guards.
