The two-factor theory has been applied to a variety
of nursing populations. Herzberg (1966) reports a
study conducted by Anderson that involved staff nurses
employed at a V.A. hospital in Utah. In the study, five
factors approached statistical significance in their
association with positive or negative job attitudes.
Recognition and achievement were found to be motivators,
while company policy and administration, interpersonal
relationships with supervisors, and working conditions
emerged as hygiene factors.
