APE programmes are naturally focussed around the orang-utans of Malaysia, representing a collection of orang-utan welfare and conservation programmes in Malaysia. Also included in our programmes is a focus on endangered animals of Malaysia including the sun bear, pygmy elephant and sea turtle. Programmes are funded by volunteer contributions and coordinated by our exceptional programme coordinators.
All our programmes aim to see an overall improvement on the welfare of this “Man of the Forest” or other focal species. APE programmes incorporate conservation, enrichment and education programmes that bring awareness about the orang-utans and the environment they live in, the threats they face and their hopes for survival.
Our signature programme, Orangutan Encounters [link to OE28], features the 2 key elements of animal welfare and reforestation. Spanning 2 project sites, one focused on improving animal welfare through enrichment and the other to increase the habitat of the orang-utan along the mesmerising Kinabatangan River, Orangutan Encounters combines the best of each programme for the orang-utans and our participants.
