Nevertheless, the results achieved on the small scale of
different sites in Lower Lusatia (NE Germany) of growth and
abiotic soil parameters are available (Gru¨ newald et al., 2005).
In the dry and nutrient poor Lusatia region, the tree species
black locust grows quite well compared to other species and
was therefore planted in most cases. Thus, our ongoing
studies focus on Robinia stands. As reference, rye the most
frequent crop farmed in the area was chosen. Both conventionally
cultivated rye fields and rye under organic farmed
conditions were studied.
Phytosociological records within tree rows of an alley
cropping system and different short rotation coppices have
shown a low development of soil vegetation below willow in
relation to Robinia stands of different age (Wo¨ llecke and
Elmer, 2008). Compared to rye fields, the diversity of plants
