Moreover, Festinger (1953) argued that correctness of beliefs tends to gain the individual more rewards than punishments in general,
so individuals continuously seek to test the correctness of their beliefs through social interaction.
Other reasons that similarity induces attraction are: 1)
that it generates cognitive consistency i.e. if we like ourselves then it is consistent if we also like others,
who are similar to us, and 2) that the social interaction with similar others is likely to be rewarding as the similar other enjoys the same things that we do (Berscheid & Walster, 1978).
