At the time of the audit, the West Midlands had eight breast screening services and ten breast screening assessment centres, with one nursing team at each assessment centre. It was recognised by the regional quality assurance reference centre and co-ordinator for breast care nursing that although there were robust quality assurance processes across the breast screening pathway, there were no quantitative data available to evaluate the service provided by CNSs. A working party was set up to develop a patient satisfaction survey for CNSs to be able to review their practice and to assess the role of the CNS in breast
screening assessment within the West Midlands.
