Bamboo, the main material used in the house is considered by Kengo Kuma, a 'living' material. Its physical and mechanical characteristics change over time, therefore creating a relationship between human and house. The bamboo has also given the house visual and tactile texture. The different spacing between the bamboo louvers creates a variation in light and therefore translating the texture onto the floor as well. The water used provides a sense of 'zen', reflecting images of the bamboo and creating a place in which to contemplate the land and its heavenly nature.
