This 2004 survey was then updated and revised in the spring of 2007 based on
additional input from members of the logistics and warehousing industry, including
members of the nationalWERC organization.WERC once again sponsored this study and
the survey was sent out as part of WERC’s official electronic communication to its
members. The first invitations to take the survey were sent out inApril 2007 and this was
followed up with a reminder two weeks later. A total of 1,332 e-mails were sent out. There
were 166 e-mails returned as undeliverable and 121 complete responses were received,
giving an effective response rate of 10.4 percent. While this response rate is relatively
small, it is not unusual for survey research involving logistics professionals (Griffis et al.,
2003). This response rate is also in line with the rates for similar studies published around
