Min Ho swallowed hard when Shin Hye tucked some strands of hair behind her ear. He missed seeing her do that. She looked extremely nervous now. She bit her lower lip, like he knew she would. Those little gestures drove him crazy. Just the thought that Shin Hye was within arm’s reach sent wild signals all over his body. But he tried to restrain himself.
‘Why do you care?’ He asked.
Shin Hye shot him an annoyed look. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Why do I care? After helping him out the last time he was so drunk he couldn’t even remove his own shoes? She frowned. ‘I don’t.’
Min Ho took another step toward her. ‘Then why are you here?’
Shin Hye was momentarily distracted, but she was fully aware of Min Ho again. He was now just a step away from her. She could almost hear her heart pounding. Her throat felt dry, and all she could do to release her nerves was ball her fists, her nails digging into her palms.
‘Why aren’t you answering?’ He asked again.
Shin Hye could no longer hold it and finally looked up to meet his eyes. That had been a mistake, because whatever daze she was in just a while ago, became more serious now that she’s seen the intensity in his stare. ‘I… don’t know,’ she replied mindlessly.
The lights flickered in Shin Hye’s eyes, causing Min Ho to catch his breath. His gaze travelled down to her lips, then to her exposed neck. Min Ho clenched his jaw and shook his head. ‘I think you know.’
Giving in to the desire building inside him, Min Ho took that last step and crashed his lips onto hers, his arm encircling her waist. He was hungry for her, and he made sure she knew that. Her lips tasted sweet and familiar – the lips that he’d been yearning to have again.
Min Ho’s warmth sent electricity all over Shin Hye’s body. She squirmed and writhed, attempting to get away from his embrace. But as Min Ho’s mouth moved over hers, she felt her insides melt and her whole body tremble. Her mind was a whirlpool, trying to process everything: his scent, his touch, the feel of his hard body against hers. She didn’t know how much she missed them until now. There was little she could do to fight it; her walls soon crumbled and she found herself kissing him back.
At Shin Hye’s surrender, Min Ho groaned and deepened the kiss, his left hand travelling from her waist to the back of her nape. Shin Hye’s hands moved over his chest before she entwined them around his neck, her fingers fiddling with the strands of hair that she could reach. Their tongues fought hungrily, eager to make up for lost time. Shin Hye could feel the heat rising from inside her and allowed herself to moan in delight.
Min Ho gently pushed Shin Hye against the wall, and she gasped in surprise when his hands made its way to her rear then to the back of her thighs. Min Ho lifted Shin Hye up, clamping her between the wall and his torso. She wrapped her legs around his waist instinctively as Min Ho’s lips trekked to her neck, sucking and nibbling, sending waves of pleasure all over her. She could feel Min Ho’s heat enveloping her, and she was just as hungry for him as he was for her.
‘I want you,’ he said, his breathing ragged, ‘so damn much.’
Shin Hye suddenly tensed at the sound of his voice. When Min Ho raised his face to claim her lips again, she drew back. She stopped touching his hair and instead, used her hands to push her body away from his. Min Ho, sensing something was amiss, creased his brows and released her.
‘What’s wrong?’ He asked as he helped her back on her feet, his breaths still uneven.
Shin Hye ran a hand through her hair and across her shirt. She hastily picked up her bag from the floor. ‘I have to go,’ she said without looking up at him.
Just as she was about to reach for the door, Min Ho held her back. ‘What?! You can’t just go.’
Shin Hye let out a sigh and yanked her hand free from his grasp. ‘Yes, I can,’ she said firmly.
‘YA.’ Min Ho took her other hand and pulled her to him. ‘At least look at me and tell me to my face what’s wrong.’
Shin Hye looked up to meet his confused eyes. ‘This is wrong. We’re over. We shouldn’t be doing this!’
Min Ho took a while to reply. ‘I don’t know about you but the way you kissed me certainly didn’t feel like it’s over.’
Shin Hye covered her forehead with her palm and closed her eyes. ‘That was a mistake. It wasn’t supposed to…’
‘Like hell it was!’ He interjected, his voice gruff. ‘Don’t give me crap like that, Shin Hye. You know what you feel. You know you also want this!’
Shin Hye met his eyes, and this time she could feel the anger rise inside her. ‘It’s a physical reaction. We’re used to each other. We missed each other. That’s it. But we shouldn’t give in to every impulse we feel.’
‘Ha!’ Min Ho let out a sarcastic laugh. ‘You’re a terrible liar.’
‘I am not lying,’ Shin Hye snapped back, her voice stern. ‘Don’t confuse your feelings with physical urges.’
‘Oh really?’ Min Ho asked incredulously. ‘Then tell me, Shin Hye. Why is it that you’re all I think about? Every freaking day. Everything reminds me of you. Your smile, your laugh, your face. When I wake up, I feel a pit in my stomach I can’t fill. Not with food, or friends, or even work. Every second I don’t see you, I die a little inside. I feel so hollow I don’t have the energy to do anything else. I dream of you when I’m asleep, and dream of you more when I’m awake.’ He paused, trying to catch his breath. Shin Hye stood there, unmoving, as she listened to every word. Min Ho took a step back. ‘And now, out of nowhere, you show up in front of me after all this time. And you’re telling me that the reason I wanted to hold you close was purely physical? Does that make any sense to you?’
As she looked at him, Shin Hye fought the tears that were threatening to spill out. If there was any time that she needed to be strong, it was now. She looked down and mustered all the courage she could from inside her. This was a war she would fight against her heart that still undeniably yearned for Min Ho.
When she finally looked up to face him, her expression was unwavering.
‘You should have thought of that before you broke my heart.’
