Jones and Trabeaux are also of the opinion that early
detection of breast cancer is the primary determinant in
survival. They therefore recommended that women should
receive age- appropriate periodic screening and education,
which includes a combination of mammography, clinical
breast examination and breast self-exainination.
In Nigeria, mammography and other highly technical early
detection measures are not readily available and accessible
for many reasons of which finance may be one. In view of this situation, breast self-examination and clinical breast
examination by health care professionals are early detection
methods advocated. These are inexpensive, affordable and
dependent on the women themselves
