The physical delamination is used by FirstSolar and ANTEC Solar GmbH. Although such a process is proven to be technically fea- sible, economically viable and capable of dealing with mixed PV module wastes, it is not possible to fully remove the semi- conductor layer from the carrier glass by it, and therefore other separation processes, such as the pyrolysis process, have to follow. Also, it is not possible for the direct use of cells after the physical delamination. The thermal decomposition process is used in SolarWorld's recycling process. Compared with the physical dela- mination process, the thermal one has the advantages of possible direct reuse for undamaged solar cells and recovery of materials of high purity.
