There are many types of maps to assist us in travel: road maps, atlas, globes,
GPS devices, aerial maps, you name it! Before we observe children, it is useful to
gather “directions” from the sources who know children best. In observation, our
best maps might be the children themselves, families, our co-workers or our own
knowledge and understanding of theoretical principles of child development.
These sources of information can steer us towards conclusions which are valid
and meaningful
