The Fiscal 2015 UBE Group Occupational Safety and Health Convention was recently
held on July 24, 2015. The guests included Chief Officer of the Ube Labor Standards
Inspection Office, and Chief of the Ube-Sanyo-Onoda Fire Department.
As is customary, the company singled out noteworthy business locations, laboratories,
small safety teams, business partners, and individuals for their outstanding
achievements under the Group’s occupational safety and health initiatives. Your tireless
efforts are greatly appreciated.
The number of occupational accidents recorded by the UBE Group declined for three
consecutive years from fiscal 2011 to 2013, part of a long-term declining trend. However,
the Group recorded 41 accidents in fiscal 2014, up two accidents from the previous year.
Since the start of fiscal 2015, we have recorded five accidents, which is fewer than at the
same time last fiscal year. While I would like to credit this to your tireless safety efforts,
there is still a large element of chance in these results and I encourage you to continue
pursuing your safety efforts driven by a sense of urgency.
The convention featured presentations from two small safety teams, one a
manufacturing team from the Fujimagari Factory and the other an SOS-C team for the
Chiba Factory of Ube Material Industries, Ltd. The presentations described their
tireless safety efforts centering on our young employees, and were highly informative. I
believe that steady and continuous efforts like these will help to eliminate accidents.
