Lesson VOC 18
Task: Tape boxes.
Prerequisites: SEN 12, SEN 13
Concept: ',ter completion of the preceding lesson, a logical progression is to secure the folded ends of the boxes with tape. Another use of this skill is to seal a box that has been filled. In either case, the action involved is the acquiring of a length of tape and the fine-motor skill of applying it to the box on the edges. If difficulties arc encountered in this sample lesson, a tape dispenser designed for taping boxes can be substituted.
Behavioral Objective: When requested to "please seal these boxes," the student will use tape to close the ends of the boxes as indicated by the supervisor to a 9096 accu¬racy level for 20 trials with at least five boxes per trial.
Materials: A variety of boxes that have been folded and are ready to be sealed with tape. If the student, or another student, is working on the lesson to fold boxes (VOC 17), the results can be used here. Some strong tape in a dispenser or scissors will also be required.
Task Analysis:
1. Show the student the locations on each folded box where taping would need to be done.
2. Continue Step 1, guiding the student and ultimately reducing all guidance until he or she can independently identify the locations where the tape should be applied.
3. Cut or otherwise dispense a length of tape suitable for applying to the box and physically guide the student in applying the tape.
4. Continue Step 3, reducing guidance until none is needed and the student can apply the tape after being handed a strip.
S. Demonstrate and then teach the student to dispense or cut the tape indepen¬dently; apply this skill to the skills learned in Steps 2 and 4. Continue until the objective is met.
