Although Disneyland does not usually come to mind when thinking about Japan, Tokyo Disneyland is in fact an interesting place to visit because of the subtle and not so subtle adaptations that have been made to this American theme park. Tokyo Disneyland is probably the most profitable of the Disney parks around the world, judging by the crowded conditions every day and tendency for Japanese to buy lots of souveneirs. The popularity of Disney characters in Japan probably has something to do with the overall sense of "cuteness" which permeates Japanese society. I went on a Monday in December and there were still 30 minute waits for most rides. The park often has to close its doors to limit the number of people inside. Tokyo Disneyland is easily accessible by JR from Tokyo station. Magic Kingdom cards give you a Y400 discount off the Y5100 (ouch!) entrance fee.
