Phra Aphai Mani, one of the greatest Thai literary works, was written during the reign of King Rama II, by a great poet named Sunthon Phu. The story has been widely read and studied up till the present time due to several reasons. For one thing, it is written in a typical from of Thai poetry known as 'klon paed' or literally an eight-meter poem, which has a consistent rhyme scheme with beautiful figurative language. Not only is the story highly regarded for its poetic style, but it is also extremely rich in ethical principles and invaluable thoughts. Beside, the author uses elements of fantasy that make the story both entertaining and exciting. A lot of sharp wits are also used to present some didactic instructions to the reader.
