Doppler echocardiography, which is more specific for diagnosing Pulmonary hypertension, measures pulmonary artery (PA) pressures noninvasively, provides information on pumping ability of both the right and left ventricles and valve function, and can detect congenital heart defects. Doppler findings indicative of advanced Pulmonary hypertension include right atrial enlargement and septal bowing into left ventricle, right ventricular enlargement and hypokinesis, and presence of a pericardial effusion.
