whist the aforementioned studies provide clear guidelines on what adventure operators should do in terns of their risk management stategies, only a limited amount of actual primary research has been conducted in this field. cloutier's (1998) work, for instance, is written from the perspective of advising his students as to which methods they should adop. in a bid to ascertain how the risk management process operates in practice, hibbert (2001) conducted an investigation into the mountain adventure tourism sector. he underlook a series of in-depth interviews with tour operators who offered mountain adventure products, and in addition soght the views of the govening body of british mountaineering, the british mountaineering council (BMC). A modle of 'management practice in mountain adventure tourism' emerged from these primary findings (see figure 8.4 ). the model incorporates contemporary viewpoints drawn from risk management lit-erature. and details specific risk management stategies that mountain adventure tourism operators employ in practice. a broad overview of the interview results and recommendations is presented here.
