This paper analyses small signal stability of a
regulated boost converter system which supplies a permanent
magnet (PM) brushless motor drive via a RLC filter. The
output impedance of the boost converter is derived and the
dynamics of the complete converter-filter-drive system is
established based on circuit laws. The small signal stability of
the system is assessed by computing the eigenvalues of the
system. It is shown that the converter and drive control
designs as well as filter parameters have profound influence
of the system stability.
