At 11.20 p.m. last night a fire broke out in a slum behind Phrakanong market razing more than 100 houses and leaving more than 600 people homeless. The house where the fire started belonged to Nai Mark Jaenkit, a taxi driver.
According to the police investigation, the fire was caused by a short circuit. It went on for about two hours before it was brought under control. Police said that it was not easy to extinguish the blaze as the alley leading to the area was very narrow making it very difficult for the fire fighting truck to reach the scene.
