2.7.2. Adulticides
Cross resistance tests with deltamethrin and cypermethrin,
both pyrethroids, and malathion, an organophosphate, were performed
with the RecR strain by using the protocol described
by Brogdon and McAllister (1998). Briefly, bottles were impregnated
separately with a single dose of each insecticide. This dose
kills 100% of Rockefeller individuals and was previously calculated
(deltamethrin = 5g/bottle, cypermethrin = 8g/bottle and
malathion = 12g/bottle). Impregnation was done 12 h prior to the
test and bottles were left in a dark and dry environment at room
temperature. Bottles impregnated with the solvent (acetone) only,
served as the negative controls. Three independent assays were
performed and for each test, one control and three bottles impregnated
with the insecticide were used. In each bottle, 15–25 unfed
