The sealed winding conformance test is used to determine
the ability of the winding to withstand moisture
while under voltage stress. The stator winding IR is measured
after exposure to moisture, followed by a maintenance-
level hipot test. Either immersion or spraying may be
used, and manufacturers may use their own special techniques.
The important part of the test is to ensure that
entire end winding and the connections to the cables or bus
bars are completely soaked with a water solution of specified
maximum surface tension. A failure with this test most
often indicates that the connections are not properly sealed
[23]. The winding must then be thoroughly dried and the
insulation around the connections inspected and improved.
