Bakanae disease caused by Fusarium moniliforme
Sheld. [teleomorph: Gibberella fujikuroi (Sawada) Ito]
is one of the important diseases of paddy occurring in
all the rice growing countries (4). In India, the disease
has been reported to cause moderate to severe losses in
the states of Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Ancira Pradesh and
Tamil Nadu (5, 6, 7). In Haryana, the disease incidence
has been increasing considerably since its first record
during Kharif 1988 (3). Though the disease attacks
both the groups of paddy i.e. high yielding dwarf and
scented tall varieties (export quality), it is more common
on the latter group in the state. The present paper reports
the sources of resistance, in both the scented and non-
scented groups of paddy.
