1.3 Preparation of SMSED-PP luminescent fiber
The SMSED-PP luminescent fibers were prepared by the melt-spinning process. The fiber-forming PP chips, SMSED phosphors and spinning additives were mixed thoroughly in scheduled proportion by a high-speed mixer. The mixture was extruded in a twin-screw master batch producer at 250–270 °C to get luminescent master batches for the spinning application. Then, the luminescent master batches were mixed with scheduled weights of PP chips, the mixture were melted and spun to obtain the SMSED-PP luminescent fiber at a spinning temperature of 250 °C, spinning speed of 2000 m/min and draw ratio of 3. According to the above spinning process, four series of SMSED-PP fiber samples with SMSED phosphors content of 5 wt.%, 10 wt.%, 15 wt.% and 20 wt.%, respectively, were prepared. Four series of SMSED-PP fiber samples contain the same dosage of spinning additives, i.e., titanate coupling agent of 0.02 wt.%, octadecanamide of 0.03 wt.% and PE-WAX of 0.1 wt.%.
