We are currently developing a profile of what an ‘engaged Newcastle graduate’ might look like and tailoring the implications of what this means for the deployment and support of existing and new undergraduate courses that have WIL components. We see the benefits of this tighter linkage with career development learning as demonstrating a pragmatic approach to lifelong learning (Field, 2006) from a workplace engagement perspective. Through WIL mechanisms being introduced in a continuous improvement model, we aim to stay more educationally engaged in the unfolding lives of our graduates and sponsoring employers.
