Three isolates obtained from the RCA plates were found to have
similar cell morphology to Bacillus isolates and were tentatively
identified as Clostridium spp. based on the presence of spores and
growth under anaerobic conditions. Furthermore, based on ITSPCR,
these three isolates showed a different genetic fingerprint
from the Bacillus spp. and were classified as ITS Group 4 (Fig. 1b).
Sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene showed that the isolates had 98%
sequence similarity to Clostridium beijerinkii.
