Man’s First Powered Flight
•It was on 17 December 1903, on the sand dunes near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, that Orville Wright climbed aboard the flying machine called “The Flyer” that he and his brother Wilbur had built.
•The aircraft moved rapidly down a wooden runway and lifted off. Twelve seconds and 120 feet later. Three additional flights were made that day, the best, flown by Wilbur, lasting just under one minute, for a distance of 852 feet (260 meters)
