Internal developments in the GMS member countries have also enhanced the stability of political relations in the region. China’s West Developmental Program, for example, the rapidly development economy of its southwest provinces have provided receptive conditions for cooperation. The economic reforms of Vietnam, Lao PDR and Cambodia also indicate their earnestness in creating a political and social environment to cooperation. Although some issues still afflict countries in the region, such as domestic politics in Myanmar, these problems have not set back cooperation in the GMS (The 10 th ministers’ meeting of GMS cooperation was in fact held in 2001 in Yangon.)
