The value of heritage is visually framed through pictures of mostly archaeological and
architectural marvels, while effective verbal items are the adjectives ‘traditional’ and
‘local’. The value of hospitality is visually transmitted through a predominance of eye-perspective,
of close social distance and of warm light. However, these devices shape more a
notion of invitation in terms of site availability and accessibility than of dialogic interaction.
Images should give more space to the depiction of traditional events where locals and
visitors share the Maltese cuisine, music and art-craft. In the brochure, this visual limit is
partly balanced by the verbal text, which makes systematic use of interpersonal strategies
like pronouns and adjectives and resorts to verbal items proper of the lexical map of
hospitality, like ‘host’ and ‘offer’. Finally, the core value of diversity is visually shaped
through represented participants’ variety in terms of settings, situations, human participants,
frames and perspectives, and verbally through a systematic use of items like ‘wide
array’, ‘unique variety’, ‘special blend’ and ‘impressive range’ to describe cultural or
recreational activities, transport means, accommodation or eating options
