In a prison there was a new prisoner. After his first meal he saw one of the prisoners
stand up. He heard him call out loudly: "Sixty-two." All the prisoners laughed loudly.
The prisoner who was standing laughed too. The new prisoner was puzzled. Then the same prisoner called out:"Eighty-seven." Everyone laughed again. The new prisoner asked his neighbour for an explanation."It is simple," replied his neighbour."We have only one jokebook in the prison library. We all know all the jokes by heart. So when we want to crack a joke,we just stand up and give its number." The new prisoner went to the library the next day. He took out the jokebook. He chose some of the best jokes. After lunch the new prisoner wanted to try his jokes. He stood up and called out:"Forty-one." Nobody laughed. All the prisoners looked at him. He tried again."Seventy-five,"he shouted. But everybody was quiet.Once more he shouted :"Twenty-nine." Nobody smiled. The new prisoner
sat down.He was dismayed. He said to his neighbour:"I don't understand why nobody laughed.I picked out the best jokes from the jokebook. But nobody laughed at all." "Well, don't worry about it,"said his neighbour. "Some people can crack a joke but others can't."
