A voice echoed in my soul. “Nicholas, are you really going to allow these events to unfold?”
Yes, I thought. This is the necessary course of fate.
“Interesting. Normally this is the sort of thing where you would intervene.”
This is an exception.
“Well, as long as you know what you are doing,” and I felt the voice retreat from my soul.
Father Willhelm was already in front of the mausoleum. The minister’s shirt was left open. It appears he did not take the time to button it up when he put his clothes back on following the slaying of the three drakes that had accosted him in the spa. He was looking down at the approaching drakes going up the hill leading to the cemetery. He turned around just as Taylor Krug ran out of the building along with the werewolf, the fairy, the water spirit, and their companion drake.
“Ah! You’re just in time!” said the father. He was holding the horn of the unicorn that the nuckelavee had slain a few days ago.
Taylor started to back away. His eyes widened with fear. He could feel the immense power that Willhelm was channeling, augmented by the horn. “What are you doing?” he asked.
Willhelm laughed. “I’ve finally figured out. Everything that has happened to me was to lead to this very moment. God has handed me this boon, and with it I will expunge this place of every foul spirit infesting it. And there is nothing you can do to stop me!” His energy began to course through the land itself, quickly encircling the entire town of Dorycek. It took less than ten seconds.
Taylor sensed this and immediately yelled, “Everyone, get back!”
The fairy flew into Taylor. Their psychic bond allowed them to communicate instantaneously. It was a good move. Time would be crucial for this event. Once their plan was set, Gan flew out of Taylor as the shaman began to chant.
“Shoney, get inside the homunculus with Wulver and stay close to Taylor!” Gan said.
The water spirit looked momentarily confused, but, convinced by the fairy’s urgency he promptly entered the homunculus. Now occupied by two beings, the homunculus stumbled into Taylor. Taylor continued to chant while supporting the homunculus. A glowing circle forming in the ground around them. The only one of the group outside of the circle was the drake. He was staring at Willhelm.
“Henry! Get over here!” Gan said. The drake did not listen and instead flew towards Willhelm. Willhelm raised his hand and discharged a burst of energy. The drake backed off, but still would not join his cohorts. It was then that the werewolf hopped out of the homunculus and seized the drake, then shoved him towards Taylor. The drake disappeared inside the human’s body. Taylor shuddered a little, but was able to contain the drake while resuming his chanting. Wulver re-entered the homunculus, and Gan re-entered Taylor. All of them were now able to fit inside the small circle the shaman had conjured.
This was good. Taylor was able to assess the gravity of the situation he was in and take the appropriate measures. He even verbally created a ward without the assistance of any catalysts.
