2. Simulation and illuminance results
The fluorescent T8 tube lamp and the fluorescent T5 tube lamp,including various types of ballasts, are compared to study the influ-ential behaviors of fluorescent lamps and ballasts in terms of energysavings and illuminance for the building. The case study room withdimensions of 21.85 m × 10.51 m × 2.7 m (room area is 229.64 m2)is simulated using the DIALux program and is shown in Fig. 1. Itcan be observed that this case study room is a lecture room withthe height of task area (work place) as 0.75 m. In addition, it can beseen that the luminaire type of 2 × 36 fluorescent luminaires arefixed in this room with 21 luminaire sets as shown in Fig. 1(c).Generally, in the lighting system, the luminaire actually consistsof two discrete types of components: the lamps and the fixture. Aphotometric report begins with a test to determine the luminousintensity distribution curve for the luminaire. The luminous inten-sity for both fluorescent lamps is recorded on a polar plot as shownin Fig. 2.As previously mentioned, to study the illuminance in buildings,the fluorescent lamps and ballasts are investigated and used withvarious changes in the case study room as presented in Table 2.After applying the various fluorescent lamps and ballasts, the lumi-nous flux in the case of the fluorescent T5 tube lamp has a valueof approximately 30% in comparison with the fluorescent T8 tubelamp.By considering the energy consumption index in Table 3, theobtained results show that the energy consumption index or Wattper square meter in the case of the fluorescent T5 tube lamp withelectronic ballast has a value less than the other cases. This indicatesthat the reduced energy consumption can be obtained from thefluorescent T5 tube lamp, even though in terms of illuminance, italso has a value less than the other cases.
