each microorganism. Therewas no significant difference in the PI of
granulocytes and of hyalinocytes. This may occur because granulocytes
are the chief phagocytic cells, their phagocytic activity is
higher than that of hyalinocytes, and the PPs of granulocytes was
higher than that of hyalinocytes. We concluded that the major
factor affecting the PI was the size of the organism. The same microorganisms
with similar sizes were used to determine granulocyte
and hyalinocyte phagocytosis. There was no significant
difference in the average number of microorganisms phagocytized
by granulocytes and hyalinocytes and the difference between the PI
of the granulocytes and the hyalinocytes was not significant.
