This was followed by the threshold process which segmented out the surface
defect area. Threshold was performed based on grey‐level
histogram analysis with a threshold value of 125. All the
pixels valued 1were interpreted as surface defects blobs.
Extracted blobs were labeled and the area was computed
from the total number of pixels valued 1. Same algorithm was
performed on blossom end image for surface defect
detection. Figure 12 shows the extraction of surface defect
using the described algorithm. Figure 13 shows the defect
detection on the blossom end using the same algorithm.
Surface defect area segmented both from the body section
and blossom end were summed up as the total surface defect
area of the fruit.
