To begin withthe first item from the questionnaire, the percentage for the first item was calculated as shown in the figure 1.
It shows that 69% of MFU’s students have patchy sleep and tears as physical signs, and 62% feel misunderstood and weird. Moreover, 87% of MFU’s students wish they were home.
Next, the mean for second item was calculated and interpreted as shown in the table 1.
It shows thatMFU’s students are strongly agree with meeting and doing activities can help them to relieve their homesickness
Last, the percentage of the third item was calculated as shown in the figure 2
It shows that MFU’s students never go to Living and Learning Support Center at D1 or meet advisor for talking and getting some advices in order to relieve their homesickness
At the result earlier, It can be said that the findings can confirm the previous studies by Student Service of York St. John University (2011) that mentioned about the signs of homesickness and University of Surrey (2012), which stated that meeting friends and joiningactivities can relieve homesickness, but do not confirm information by Otago University (2013) that mentioned about talking to someone at counseling services can decrease homesickness.
For the solutions of the problem, the data from the interview showed that 6 out of 10 students who get homesick lack of motivation to do anything. 4 out of 10 students who become homesick are having depression. However, 8 out of 10 students confirm that meeting and doing activities can help them relieve their homesickness. Moreover, they suggest MFU’s students who get homesick to call their parents or people whom they love which can help them decrease their homesickness. According to the study of Curtin University mentioned that the helpful thing that can decrease homesickness is contact with family by phone or email.
