Table 1 showed that soil enzyme activities varied with rice varieties and growth stages in paddy field. Both allelopathic and non-allelopathic rice varieties grown in paddy field led to an increase in soil enzyme activities during all growth stages.
Soil planted allelopathic PI312777 had higher polyphenoloxidase, urease and invertase activities when compared to soil planted non-allelopathic Liaojing-9 during early growth stages (from seedling to elongation), while dehydrogenase activities always were higher in PI312777 soil than in Liaojing-9 soil during the whole growth stages, especially during late growth stages (from elongation to mature).
