According to the Plan General de Turismo Sostenible de Andalucía
2008–2011 (Master Plan of Sustainable Tourism of Andalusia 2008–
2011), the territorial interpretation of the main tourism resources in
Andalusia and the potential use of products based on them, allow us
to differentiate three main areas in the tourist space: littoral, inland
urban and inland rural. Three major tourism areas showing both trends
and different actions as well as distinct processes that lead to specific
diagnostic assessments to each of them (PGTSA, 2007). With respect
to these different geographical ambits the Plan sets the cornerstones
that lead the interventions as such: diversification, sustainable development,
and recovery of competitive positions (for littoral area); supply
configuration and cohesion (inland rural area), and enrichment and
broadening of the offer inland urban area. In synthesis, there is a general
intention to correct the intense and unplanned development in the
littoral area and to promote the inland urban or rural spaces in a sustainable
way.
