The
prevalence of food allergy is increasing [7]. In repeated studies of the prevalence of peanut
allergy in a US population based on random telephone survey performed in 1997, 2002, and
2008, it was found that the prevalence of peanut allergy increased from 0.4% to 0.8% to
1.4% over the three time points [8-10]. Rates of peanut allergy over 1% are consistent with
reports from Canada [11], the UK [12], and Australia [13], including studies that employed
physician evaluation and food challenges
