The island where used to be a land, in Ayutthay period ,there was a big project to build a canal linked the zigzag river route for more easier tranportation. So that area became an island by human doing. Also in later period,the King donated this island as a land of Mon community who invaded from Burma. It was the beginning of Mon life there. After Mon settled in Island ,they still spent their life as usual, belief and religion, food and desserts,houses,pottery making,culture and tradition,...... all 're still alive in this island.
Today,this island is one tourist attraction in Nonthaburi. There 're so many things to do and see in this place, such as visitting temples and museums, shopping Mon handicraft, trying Mon food,.....
For visitting this island, by boat, as I know there 're a cruise from Maharat pier (near Wat Phra Kaew) every Sunday. Please follow the link below.
For independent visitting, just catch bus no.32 or air con bus no. 5 and 6 from Sanam Luang field or Bang Lamphu area. It run to Pakkret then walk to Sanam Nue temple for ferry to Porramai Yikawas temple pier.
