Not until the twentieth century twentieth century, several people started applying statistics to aid in quality control. The founding fathers of statistical quality control include people such as W.A. She wart, who contributed many ideas including control charts, H.F. Dodge and H.G. Rooming who together developed the sampling plans. Recognition of the value of statistical quality control was not generally accepted by industry until World War II. By that time statistical sampling techniques were used to evaluate quality, and quality control charts were used to monitor the production process.
